Boats

Lake Macquarie is home to tens of thousands of boats, of all shapes and sizes. Multimillion-dollar gin palaces nestle alongside basic tinnies, classic fishing boats, graceful sailing boats and everything in between. It’s like one of every boat ever sold in Australia has found a home on the lake – not to mention some interesting home-made examples.

A little while since the owners have checked in on this small fishing boat, but the seagulls are happy to keep on top of it.
This beautiful old ketch turned up in Swan Bay recently. Called Oyster Man, it has great bones but needs a lot of works.
This one is called Back Der Front for obvious reasons. This shot was taken in Swan Bay, but she relocated over Wangi side.
I’m still trying to figure out why you would take a perfectly good Hobie Cat, cut it in half (including the trampoline), bolt it on to an old surfboat with lengths of 4 by 4, then whack up a mast. Instant trimaran, but I’d love to see it sail…
This ugly bugger was moored in Swan Bay for months before being sold and carted away on a flatbed truck. I hope the buyer got a bargain.
A lovely ketch with great lines. Appears to be well-travelled.
This lovely old fishing boat was built in 1965, so it’s just a little younger than me
